On May 26th, Council Member Ryan Alter declared Austin High Culinary Class Day in Austin, Texas, and we are so proud this recognition grew from our partnership with Austin ISD. 🎉
Earlier this year, nearly 1,600 elementary students from 53 schools entered the Kerbey Lane All Day Cafe Pancake Challenge. Their winning creations have been featured as our Pancake of the Month from April through June, with a portion of proceeds going directly to support Austin ISD’s negative student meal balances.
Most recently, teams from Austin and Bowie High Schools competed in a live culinary competition, and the winning team’s dish will soon be featured on our seasonal menu. 👨🍳👩🍳
We are grateful to Austin ISD, to every student who entered, and to Council Member Alter for this recognition. Supporting Austin students and future chefs is something we hope to do for a long time to come!

Say hello to May's Pancake of the Month: Mint Chip 🌿🍫 This dreamy creation comes straight from Hannah, an Austin ISD 4th grader with serious talent in the kitchen.
Hannah loves to bake, loves to read, and can already pull off cakes, cookies, tacos, nachos, and s'mores entirely on her own. When she grows up, she wants to be a designer. We think she's off to a pretty great start.
Her inspiration came from her all time favorite treat: mint chocolate chip ice cream. She brought that flavor to the breakfast table and the result is a chocolate chip pancake with mint cream cheese glaze and chocolate sauce.
Even sweeter: through our Kerbey Kindness program, a portion of every Mint Chip sold goes directly toward covering negative meal account balances for Austin ISD students, because Hannah's favorite cafeteria order (pancakes, naturally) should be something every kid can enjoy.

We had such a pleasure hosting our first ever culinary competition with Austin ISD Food Service.
Austin ISD High schoolers competed to earn a spot on our summer menu. The judging panel included Madeline Hollern of Austin Monthly, our CEO Mason Ayer, and a student judge known as the "Cafeteria Crusader." This one was tight. Every team brought it, and picking a winner was not easy. All of these students have a real future in food.

Austin ISD ensures no student goes without a meal, but negative student meal account balances average around $16,000 throughout the school year. From April through June, the Kerbey Kindness program helps cover those costs for families who need it most.

Our Kerbey Lane Cafe San Marcos location sits right on the river, and that view never gets old. That's exactly why we're proud to spotlight San Marcos River Foundation as a community partner. For 40 years they've fought to keep the San Marcos River clean, flowing, and open to everyone. Supporting the communities we're part of isn't just something we do, it's why we're here.

Say hello to April's Pancake of the Month: Tutti Frutti! 🍓
This colorful creation was dreamed up by Jose, an AISD 3rd grader with big ideas and even bigger flavor ambitions. Jose spends his free time playing soccer, painting, and gaming, and one day plans to be a firefighter. He can already cook eggs and chicken on his own, so the kitchen is clearly his domain.
Here is the best part: his everyday favorite foods are pasta and meatballs and chicken and rice. But when it came to his pancake, he wanted to try something totally new by combining all his favorite flavors into one creation. The result speaks for itself.
A fruity, festive stack filled with fresh strawberries, cherries, and chocolate chips, finished with a banana glaze and a shower of rainbow sprinkles. Bright, fun, and it tastes exactly like a dream brought to life.
