Kick Butt Music Open Mic

Kick Butt Music Open Mic is a performance and event venue that also doubles as a coffee shop. Every Thursday from 6:00pm to 10:00pm, they host Music Open Mic Nights, where musicians can sign up on a first come, first served basis starting at 5:30pm. Participants have the opportunity to perform two songs or for 10 minutes, with a chance to be the weekly Featured Artist who can perform four songs or for 20 minutes. In addition to the music, Kick Butt Music Open Mic offers a full bar with a variety of drink options including wine, beer, liquor, and specialty cocktails, as well as food items like coffee, cookies, snacks, pizza, and sandwiches. Performers enjoy $2 beer specials and $3 rum and cokes throughout the night. The venue is located on Airport Boulevard in Austin.

As many of you are aware we have implemented a feature element to Kick Butt Music Open Mic. The feature element has been going on for 6 months and we've had 6 amazing features so far. It's in its infancy still, but we expect it to evolve over time.

Here's the break down for right now.

First and foremost this is not a contest, and we don't "play favorites". This is an opportunity we've provided to highlight the talented, dedicated performers who are a part of our Music Open Mic community.

We choose all our features from our Kick Butt Music Open Mic Community. We're not talking people who just show up once or some rando "off the streets", we mean those who are dedicated to Kick Butt, the Music Open Mic, and the community we're building.

In addition to our vast local scene, we have a collection of national and international performers, some of whom we only see once or a few times a year. In an effort to include them we may have a perfomer come through who isn't familiar to you, but is still part of our Kick Butt Music. Music Open Mic community.

We like to represent all genres of music and the diversity of the performers on stage, it doesn't matter to us if you wanna play covers or originals. We just wanna hear you play music.

Other than that it's pretty arbitrary.

If you're interested in being a part of our community and a Kick Butt Music Open Mic feature then come check us out every Thursday! Sign up is at 5:30p, show runs from 6-9p. Each performer gets 10 minutes or 2 songs, whichever comes first.

To get to the location on Airport Boulevard in Austin, you have a couple of options for public transport and driving/parking:

Public Transport:
1. Bus: Take the Capital Metro bus route #350 towards Austin Community College Highland Campus. Get off at the stop near the intersection of Airport Boulevard and 51st Street. The venue is a short walk from there.

Driving/Parking:
1. From downtown Austin: Head north on I-35 and take exit 238A toward US-290 E/US-183 N/Airport Blvd. Merge onto Airport Boulevard and continue straight for about 2 miles. Look for parking options along the street or in nearby parking lots.

2. From Austin-Bergstrom International Airport: Take TX-71 W from Presidential Blvd and follow signs for US-183 N/Austin. Continue on US-183 N for about 6 miles, then turn right onto Airport Boulevard. The venue will be on your left-hand side after about half a mile. Look for parking options along the street or in nearby parking lots.
