This is our first post in 2 years! I’m sure you think we’ve been fooling you, but the time has come to turn our attention to Hoffbrau again! If you drive 6th street, You will start to see some work going on to the dining room. New roof, new AC , etc, Likely will be fall before maintenance is finished. My son( he’s the 4th generation) is heading up this project, so yes it’s the same family ownership as it’s been since 1932. Once renovations to the building are complete, we will turn our attention to hiring staff. That’s gonna be the toughest assignment! Gonna be extremely hard to replace Arcie, Kathy, and Lorie😞. If you’re the praying type, send up a few prayers for us to find genuinely good folks🙏. And keep your eyes open this fall for continued news about the revival of Hoffbrau!

All my life, Hoffbrau has been my “home” away from home. It was an extension of our home, which was just a few blocks away. Family Birthday, graduation , anniversary parties were all held there. When I had Saturday night slumber parties as a girl, on Sunday morning Dad would pile us into the family station wagon and drive us girls the few blocks to Hoffbrau for pancakes, sausage and eggs cooked on Hoffbrau’s grill! It was a part of anything and everything eventful in my life. For me to see it dark and inoperable for the past 6 months has been very difficult. As I’m sure it has been for our regular customers and our staff of over 50 years as well! We want to get back to business as usual. But in all sincerity, we have come to realize that that isn’t going to happen. Our Hoffbrau crew, now in their 60s and 70s are just not going to be able to carry Hoffbrau forward. When Hoffbrau does start serving again, and it definitely will at some point, a new and different team of people will carry it forward. It will be up to my son and I to construct that team, and right now we’re just not seeing the right people for the job. We know we are never gonna find people just like those we’ve had the past 50 years. But we’re hoping in time to identify a handful of reliable and hospitable individuals. The events of the past 3 years in our country have left us with a “different” sort of world. I’m sure you’ve heard it said that “ normal isn’t coming back”. And perhaps it isn’t?! None of us can say. But maybe in a few years, the available work force will improve and we’ll find some folks we trust to treat our customers well?! Meanwhile, Hoffbrau will likely continue to sit idle. We have recently been using it to store supplies for our b**r garden , Rustic Tap. We have no plans for anything else to operate in our dining room. We ask that you continue to pray for us and for our country. We miss each and every one of you. We will see you when we see you!Hopefully we’ll be able to throw a couple of steaks on our ol’ grill for you within a few short years?! That’s my hope ! Feel free to send us some Facebook love any time!

We’re still in “pause “ mode ( not serving) due to some health issues with several members of our “senior” staff. We will continue to update our Facebook every month or two! Sending ♥️ to all of you who keep asking about us! You’re the best!

Hoffbrau regrets to inform our loyal customers that due to circumstances beyond our control, we are currently unable to return to serving steaks.😞We are just as disappointed as you are! If the health issues that currently are encumbering us should resolve themselves in coming months, we will start serving up steaks again asap! Hoffbrau is our happy place, and we miss it, and you guys, terribly! ♥️ Meanwhile, your thoughts and prayers will be gratefully welcomed🙏. As always, we will keep everyone updated here on Facebook!

What people say
The Original Hoffbrau Steakhouse is a true gem in the heart of Austin. Since 1934, this steakhouse has been serving up some of the best grilled steaks in town. The restaurant has become a staple for locals and visitors alike, with generations of families coming back time and time again.
The history of The Original Hoffbrau Steakhouse is fascinating, with brothers Robert "Coleman" Hamby and Tom opening the restaurant during the depression era. The stroke of luck they experienced when prohibition laws were revoked allowed them to serve beer and attract customers who could afford to spare a nickel for a glass. Today, the restaurant still boasts kegged beer and displays old photos from that time on its walls.
But it's not just the history that makes this steakhouse special. The food is absolutely delicious, with perfectly grilled steaks that are cooked to perfection. The menu also features other classic dishes like chicken fried steak and burgers, all made with high-quality ingredients.
The atmosphere at The Original Hoffbrau Steakhouse is warm and inviting, with friendly staff who make you feel right at home. Whether you're looking for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, this steakhouse is the perfect spot.
Overall, if you're looking for an authentic Austin dining experience with delicious food and rich history, look no further than The Original Hoffbrau Steakhouse on West 6th Street.
