Ruby's BBQ and Catering was a popular barbecue restaurant located on W 29th Street. They offered real pit-smoked barbecue with traditional and non-traditional sides, as well as Cajun and vegetarian inspired dishes. Their beef brisket was proudly steroid- and hormone-free. Since opening in November of 1988, they aimed to provide good, homemade food at a modest price for their diverse clientele, which included UT area residents, Hyde Park locals, West Austin residents, "Q" addicts from South Austin, musicians, film aficionados, and international visitors. Over the years, Ruby's BBQ expanded their menu to include salads, tacos, Cajun food, vegetarian items, and soup and side dish specials while still maintaining their down home BBQ roots. Unfortunately, Ruby's BBQ and Catering has closed permanently.
