Hey folks! I know many folks wanted keepsakes from the West, and we sold out very quickly the first time. We have been going all the stuff we've moved out of West, and have set aside more things for y'all, including dining room chairs.

We are partnering with our South Austin neighbors for all sales, so your purchases not only support the survival of the South, but another small business too -- Prima Dora -- in these trying times. We hope you'll go to PrimaDora.com and check out what they have to offer. Thanks again for your love and support. We're working hard trying to figure out our plan to reopen the South in some form. Hope to see all y'all soon.

When you shop at Prima Dora, you’ll find a selection of gifts and accessories as unique as Austin. We have items to outfit all ages and interests.

Hey folks! Many of y'all were asking for some keepsakes from the Magnolia on Lake Austin. We are coordinating with our South Austin small-biz neighbor, Prima Dora, to sell a few things from that location. Teapots, salt and pepper shakers, and even a tabletop with cloth on it. He also has our Mag shirts for sale, for those of y'all who have been wanting one. (Fun fact - many of them glow in the dark. That's just how we roll.) Enjoy!

A note from the owners of the Cafes:

Kent started the Magnolias in 1979 on Lake Austin Boulevard, back then known as the Omelettry West. Many of you remember us from back in those days, the staff taking two minute breaks from service to sing together in the dining room and serving up the pancakes and eggs that have been our staples for years.

In the past few years, we’ve seen so many of you regulars at the West. Many of them the children and some of them the grandchildren of our original customers. We’ve had a great team there who we’re proud of, and we’ve done big improvements to the building and our facilities. However, things have been slowing down there for the past few years. In the face of such a huge hit with the reality of Covid-19 and the incredible uncertainty of the future, we’ve had to confront the fact that this location will not survive. We

Magnolia Cafe Lake Austin had a great forty one years offering our fare, our style and, most importantly, a place for people from the neighborhood and from all over the world to come together and do what people do best - have a meal and talk to each other. And we, our family and all the staff and management through the years got to do what makes people their best - take care of other people.

To our neighbors and loyal customers of that location for so many years, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. The West is where we’re from. Y’all are where we are from. We couldn’t have done it without you, and now we hope all you north of the river folks cross one of the handy bridges and head up the hill to our location on South Congress for your T. Rex omelette, your jalapeño cheese burger, your gingerbread pancakes, your Love Veggies, your Mag Mud, your Pasta Alfredo, your Magnolia brownie. We hope to reopen the South Congress location when it is safe to do so.

We would love to hear your stories of the West. We know so many of y’all raised your families here, met your sweethearts here, saw old friends and made new ones as well. Please share your stories and photos if you would like at magnoliacafeaustin at gmail dot com.

Thank you, Austin. Thank you world.

Over the past few days, our team here has been running every scenario possible for how to stay open, feed our community, and keep everyone’s jobs in tact. But as we have come to learn more about COVID-19, including the way it can transmit from folks who are asymptomatic, we have realized a sobering truth — that the best way to truly love our team and our community is to put no one in harm’s way. So we are abiding the strictest reading of the CDC’s recommendations. All these years we have said Sorry, We’re Open, all hours of every day. And for the next little while, Yes, We’re Closed.

The statistics show that if five people work from home for four days, one life would be saved over the next two months. We are hoping if our team of two hundred does not gather, plus all our wonderful customers, the number of lives saved can be many, many more.

Austin, we love you. And now we are putting that sentiment into action in a new way for a little bit. We will be closed for a week starting today, and then evaluating that closure on a week-by-week basis. See you soon. Stay well. Don’t take more than you need. Call your mom.
