Crying tears of joy this morning. I knew we created something special but for Lao’d Bar to be listed #5 of best Austin Restaurants wasn't something I thought was even possible (Top 4 will probably be in the Michelin Guide). Blood, sweat and tears it's an understatement for what my team and I put in to make it happen. Everyday has been a roller coaster ride of grinding long hours, cooking in 130 degree kitchens, equipment breakdown and malfunctions and rolling with every punch thrown at us. The crazy part is... We're still learning, growing and improving on a constant basis to put out the best product and experience we can. Special thanks to Gwen for all your sacrifices it wouldn't have been possible without you.

Bob Somsith’s culinary journey has taken him from cooking as a child at his mother’s side in Laos, to corporate catering gigs interspersed throughout his career as an accountant, to a six-year stint running one of Austin’s best food trucks (SXSE).

On Wednesday, he will open his first brick-and-mortar restaurant and bar.

Lao’d Bar is serving a menu of Lao-American cuisine packed with salty, pungent and sour flavors that make it perfectly suited for beer (and cocktail) drinking.
